On May 29, 2024, at 19:30 (UTC+8), the sixth module of the eighth semester of the ANSO BIDI School (Belt and Road International Innovation and Development Institute Network) was successfully held online. Professor David L. Olson from the University of Nebraska delivered a lecture titled “Innovation, Environment, and Sustainability.”
David L. Olson is the James & H.K. Stuart Chancellors Distinguished Chair Professor of Supply Chain Management and Analytics with the University of Nebraska. He has authored or coauthored research in over 150 refereed journal articles, primarily on the topic of multiple objective decision-making, information technology, supply chain risk management, and data mining. He has authored over 20 books.,Mr. Olson is a member of the Decision Sciences Institute, the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences, and the Multiple Criteria Decision Making Society. He was named Best Enterprise Information Systems Educator by IFIP in 2006. He is a fellow of the Decision Sciences Institute. He has served as an Associate Editor for Service Business, Decision Support Systems, and Decision Sciences and Coeditor in chief of International Journal of Services Sciences. He has made over 200 presentations at International and National Conferences on Research Topics.

The lecture focused on innovation, the environment, and sustainability. Professor Olson discussed global environmental issues, sustainable development, and the application of artificial intelligence in environmental protection. He began by defining sustainable development and outlined goals such as environmental responsibility, avoiding negative impacts, encouraging clean energy and sustainable development, and maintaining sustainable economic growth. He then addressed the issue of greenhouse gas emissions and explored the potential of AI and machine learning in tackling these problems. The lecture concluded with a call to collectively seek a balance to achieve sustainable development.
At the end of the session, participants expressed their gratitude to Professor Olson for his insightful presentation and looked forward to future lectures.
