ANSO BIDI School Successfully Launches the Second Module of Its Eighth Semester

On May 1, 2024, at 19:00 (UTC+8), the second module of the eighth semester of the ANSO BIDI School (Belt and Road International Innovation and Development Institute Network) commenced online. The course featured a distinguished lecture by Professor Peng Shi, titled “Cyber-physical Systems: Benefits and Challenges.” The lecture attracted dozens of participants from countries along the Belt and Road.

Professor Peng Shi, a professor at the University of Adelaide, Australia, delivered the lecture. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, Senior Editor of IEEE Access, and Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE SMC Society. He is also the President of the International Academy of Systems and Cybernetics Sciences. Professor Shi is a Fellow of IET, IEAust, and CAA, as well as a member of the European Academy of Sciences. Additionally, he holds foreign membership in the Romanian Academy of Scientists and the International Academy of Systems and Cybernetics Sciences. His research interests encompass systems and control theory, with applications in autonomous and robotic systems, network systems, and cyber-physical systems.

The lecture primarily discussed the concept, characteristics, and applications of cyber-physical systems, along with the current challenges they face. Professor Shi first introduced the definition and concept of cyber-physical systems, including their structure and functionality, as well as their practical applications in real life. He then addressed security issues related to cyber-physical systems, such as how to design attack strategies to reduce detectability and negatively impact operating system performance. Lastly, the lecture highlighted some recent work on cyber-physical systems and provided a brief review of these advancements.
