The Fourth Module of the Eighth B&R International Innovation and Development Institute Network Plan Alliance (ANSO-BIDI) School was successfully held

The fourth module of ANSO BIDI School course 2024 was held online on 15th of May at 19:30 ( UTC+8).

Professor Opher Baron was invited to give a presentation titled “On the Benefits from New Technology” to the students for this course.

Opher Baron is an outstanding professor of operations management at the Rothmann School of Management at the University of Toronto. Formerly a Visiting Associate Professor at the School of Industrial Engineering and Management at Technion (2009/10) and a Visiting Professor at the School of Information Management and Engineering at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (2016/17). He also served as the Academic Director of the MMA project (2021-2023) and Coordinator for Operations Management and Statistics (2015-2021). He holds a PhD in Operations Management from MIT Sloan School of Management, an MBA in Industrial Engineering and Management from Technion, and a Bachelor of Science degree. In terms of teaching, Opher is particularly proud of the modeling and analysis courses he introduced and taught at Rotman. In terms of applications, he takes pride in launching the Covidpehelp.ca platform with his colleagues. During the global COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, the platform facilitated the flow of millions of personal protective equipment to end-users. His research interests include queuing, business analytics, service operations (such as healthcare), autonomous vehicle, and revenue management. Opher’s work has been published in mainstream journals such as Operations Research and Manufacturing and Service Operations Management, and has received multiple research and teaching awards and funding, including the 2017 Shanghai Municipal Government Thousand Talents Program Scholar and the Rotman 2023 Outstanding Academic Contribution Award.

Professor Opher Baron briefly introduced the benefits of autonomous vehicle and their impact on transportation and tourism costs. At the end of the meeting, the students expressed great benefits and looked forward to the next lecture.
